Last Friday, the Chiefs took down the River Ridge Knights for the eighth year in a row. This victory marks Sequoyah’s second region win of the season.  

The highly anticipated game was hyped up all throughout the week. Some Cherokee County football enthusiasts thought that the SHS vs. RRHS game could be River Ridge’s first in–county win in their ten years as a school; however, with the Chiefs being riled-up, they pulled out a win and proved the naysayers wrong. 

Friday’s game was River Ridge’s Homecoming, which made it a tough atmosphere for the Chiefs to go into. Due to The Ridge’s hype, the first quarter was a stalemate for both teams.  

Neither team ended the first quarter with any points on the scoreboard. In the second quarter, Jaden Mitchell returned a fumble recovery for a touchdown, putting Sequoyah on the board. With Mitchell’s touchdown, the Chiefs went into halftime with a 6-0 lead. 

The third quarter started with Sequoyah kicking off to River Ridge, but there were no points to follow. During the final quarter, Myles McGee scored the second and final touchdown for the Chiefs. The final score was 13-0 with Sequoyah bringing home a win. 

This week, the Chiefs look to advance their 3-3 record with a win against South Cobb.
