Dance team’s first competition

On Saturday, Feb. 5, the dance team competed in their first competition, the McIntosh Dance Invitational at McIntosh High School. There were over 40 high school teams that competed in the competition.

Head coach Karrie Mattice gives her take on the performance.

“I feel like the performance went exceptionally well for a first competition ever as a team,” Mattice said. “The very first time a team attends a competition, it is a great learning experience.”

The dance team, referred to as the Golden Chiefs, competed in one team event, team pom, and had three soloists: senior Rylee Snyder, junior Kat Klucsarits, and freshman Sarah Mitchell.

“Our soloists did an amazing job executing their dance on an extremely slippery gym floor,” Mattice said. “The girls have worked tirelessly in morning practices for seven months to whip our dance into a competition ready performance.”

Klucsarits and Snyder both performed a contemporary solo while Mitchell performed a jazz solo.

“I thought our performance went very well,” Snyder said. “Watching all the other teams put a fire under us to get back to work and be bigger and better next year, which I know we will be.”

The Golden Chiefs placed seventh in their division in their first and final competition of the season. The growing team looks to get involved at more competitions next season.

“It was our chance to get our feet wet and be fully prepared for next year,” Mattice said.
