Tee-day is the day

Spring has sprung and the Masters have begun. Masters is an event in which golfers with the most incredible talent come together to compete for the title of the Master champion. Resulting in an invite to play in three other majors’ tournaments (the U.S. Open, The Open Championship, and the PGA Championship) for the next five years. The most common way to earn the opportunity to play golf at Augusta National would be to get invited by one of the club’s members. While its membership roll is not public, Augusta has about 300 members, and most are allowed to bring guests on select days of the season to play.

The Masters takes place every early April in Augusta, Georgia. This year the Masters took place on Apr 7-10. The name of a famous golfer that people typically hear the most is Tiger Woods. Woods is in his late 40s and is still competing. Fans are in shock that he is still competing and especially competing in such big tournaments, such as the masters. Woods did not have the performance he was hoping for, but he knows what he must do to reclaim the title of champion as he has won the Masters 5 times, the last time being in 2019.

“I wasn’t exactly playing my best out there, but to just have the support out there — an appreciation from all the fans… To end up here and be able to play all four rounds, even a month ago, I did not know if I could pull this off. It was a positive. I have some work to do, and I’m looking forward to it,” Wood says to a CBS reporter.

This year, USA player Scottie Scheffler took home the title of master champion. He is ranked number one in the official golf rankings. He is 25 years old and graduated from The University of Texas at Austin. Scheffler admitted in his press conference, after claiming the title, that he had struggled to control his emotions ahead of his afternoon tee-off time. He had already claimed the world number one spot after winning three of his last five tournaments ahead of The Masters; he credited his wife Meredith with calming him down.

“I cried like a baby this morning; I was so stressed out. I did not know what to do. I was sitting there telling Meredith, “I don’t think I’m ready for this. I am not ready, I do not feel like I am ready for this kind of stuff, and I just felt overwhelmed,” Scheffler said in his press conference after winning.

To finish his press conference, and his season, he ended with “”If you are going to choose a golf tournament to win, this would be the tournament I would want to win. You do not know how many chances you are going to get. And so having a chance – I think I had a five-shot lead on Friday and then a three-shot lead going into today, I do not know if you get better opportunities than that. You do not want to waste them.”
