March Madness Recap
The annual March Madness tournament made a comeback after being cancelled last year due to COVID-19. As usual, the hype surrounding the tournament was through the roof — and full of busted brackets.
This year, there was a “Cinderella story” team that found their way into the Final Four. UCLA originally barely made the cut into the tournament, scraping in as an 11 seed. The Bruins had to play a game against Michigan State, which they ended up winning 86-80. This win secured them a place in the Final Four.
The Final Four consisted of highly favored Gonzaga, Baylor, UCLA, and Houston. Gonzaga beat UCLA in their Final Four game 93-90. It was a back-and-forth game that ended up going into overtime. Gonzaga guard Jalen Suggs hit a half-court shot as time expired in the first overtime. On the other side of the bracket, Baylor played Houston in their Final Four matchup. Baylor walked over the Cougars 78-59.
The championship game was one to remember. Gonzaga was favored once again and had the country convinced that they were going to beat Baylor. However, Baylor won the game in a 86-70 beat down and brought home the school’s first men’s basketball title. This win came 20 years after their head coach said he was going to bring a championship to Baylor in his first press conference.
