Myles McGee commits to Northern Illinois
Senior Myles McGee, a two-sport varsity athlete and a three-way football starter, announced his commitment to Northern Illinois University on Thursday, September 19th to play football. Following a breakout junior season in which he hauled in 21 receptions and 5 touchdowns, McGee turned many heads in college football programs around the nation.
Along with Northern Illinois, McGee received many other offers. One of the schools, however, stood out among the other 11.
“I was offered by 11 other schools,” McGee said. “[They were] Kent State, UTC, Campbell, Troy, Delaware State, Austin Peay, Marshall, Akron, Alabama A&M, and Liberty. When I went on my official visit to NIU, I just knew it was where I belong. The atmosphere and the coaching staff just made it feel like home. What impressed me most about the school was all the love they showed.”
Along with the atmosphere and environment, Mcgee was impressed with the team’s playing style.
“They play big-time ball,” Mcgee said. “The way the depth chart is set up gives me a chance to play early.”
While he’s excited for the next chapter in his life, McGee understands that he will have a lot on his plate.
“I’m a mama’s boy, so it’s going to be hard to be so far from home, but I’ll be pretty occupied,” McGee said. “There is a lot to do.”
McGee is confident that he made the right choice in committing to Northern Illinois to continue his football career.
