Setting a high bar for Sequoyah Gymnastics
This year marked the inaugural season of a new team at Sequoyah. This year was the gymnastics team’s first season in a couple of years. The team was more active and involved in the past, but due to low participation, the team fizzled out in recent years.
This season, three gymnasts showed interest, so the team started back up. McKenna Sipe, Taylor Grabowski, and Peyton Whitley were the three team members.
The only senior on the team was Peyton Whitley, but this season was not her first time doing gymnastics. Whitley was a gymnast for a majority of her younger years.
“I did gymnastics for about seven years until I quit in eighth grade due to a severe back injury,” Whitley said. “When Sequoyah got a team this year, I jumped back into it because I’ve been wanting to get back into it since I had to quit.”
As a senior, Whitley was excited to see the return of the gymnastics team and made great memories while on the team.
“Getting to see old gym friends and testing my limits to be better than before were some of the memories I’ll never forget” Whitley said.
As this season comes to a close the meander of the Sequoyah gymnastics team looks forward to all that lies ahead for the team in years to come.
