A haunted homecoming this way comes

With homecoming right around the corner, students are beginning to prepare for the themed week. While the actual dance is at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, the festivities commence at the beginning of the week. Wednesday, Oct. 23 is the annual homecoming parade where different sports teams, clubs, and people from the community come together and fill Hickory Road with candy and school spirit.
For some, the most important part of homecoming week is the football game. This year the Chiefs will play against Sprayberry High School on Oct. 25, and the theme will be Halloween.
Throughout the week, the student body will dress up in themes to amplify the excitement of the week. The student government decided that Monday is Disney Day, Tuesday is Tacky Tuesday, Wednesday is Meme/Vine Day, Thursday is Decades Day, and Friday is Halloween.
The students chosen to be on homecoming court this year are more than thrilled to participate. Sophomore Jack Piskorz was on homecoming court last year, which was a positive experience for him.
“I was very excited to be able to [be on homecoming court] again and honored that my classmates selected me for a second time,” Piskorz said. “The whole process is great from beginning to end.”
Senior Bailey Moore is also very proud to represent Sequoyah during her two years on homecoming court. Moore has high expectations for her final year on court.
“I think it is so fun and magical to be on court,” Moore said.
Other nominated students, however, do not share Moore’s excitement. Taylor Pecht will represent the freshman class this year and has mixed feelings about being on homecoming court.
“My heart sank [when I was announced] because I was so intimidated by the opportunity,” Pecht said. “I was really scared because nothing like this has ever happened to me.”
In contrast, freshman Jimmy Anderson is ready for this new experience.
“My initial reaction when I heard the news was very excited and happy [that] my friends choose me. I hope to be humble[d] with this experience,” Anderson said.
