Blessed Trinity Track Meet Recap

The Sequoyah track team traveled to Blessed Trinity Catholic High School Mar. 2 for its inaugural meet of the 2021-22 season. Several athletes placed in multiple events.  

On the boy’s side, junior Cantrell Davis won both the 100- and 200- meter sprint, and several other Chiefs athletes placed in the top five in both events. Sophomore Nate Case and senior Gabriel Ajose took first and second in the 400 meter, and Josh Helms won the 800 meters. Sequoyah also won the newly implemented 4×200 meter relay and placed in several field events. Jack Tucker took second place in pole vaulting.

Not to be outdone, the girls’ team also had a respectable showing taking home gold in multiple events. Mya McRae won the 100 and 200 meters for the girls, with Kayla Stewart also placing in the top 3 in both events, and Callie Bacon taking second in the 100. Taryn Bannister won the 400 meter, and Ella Grace Cothren took third in the 800 meters, along with taking fourth place in the 1600 meter. The girls also followed the same trend as the boys and won 4×200. In the field, the girls had first place finishes in the high jump with Taryn Bannister, in the long jump, with Callie Bacon, in the triple jump and pole vault with Keira Height, and in the shot put with Samarah Destin.  

The track team looks forward to sustaining their success as the season progresses.
