The Chiefs are on fire folks! A successful night on both sides of the ball led to another win for this year’s team. This performance extended the Chief’s home winning streak to 6 games, going back to last season.
The offense was on point all night, whether it was passing or running the ball. The Chiefs kicked off the night with a run that led to a 4th down conversion that junior running back, Ean Marria, took all the way after running over several Eagle defenders.
After striking first, the offense moved the ball quickly down the field on their second drive. It was capped off by a redzone receiving touchdown completed by senior wide receiver Jackson Hancock and thrown by sophomore quarterback Kolby Martin. Hancock continued to make impact plays for the offense, as he took an outside handoff 67 yards for a touchdown to strengthen the Chief’s grip on the game.
As for the defense, it was a “bend but don’t break” mentality all night. In the first half, they created a lot of pressure on Etowah quarterback Xavier Mahoney. This led to a shutout at halftime, putting them up 14-0. In the 2nd half, the defense had to produce some big turnovers to prevent an Etowah comeback.
The first caused turnover was early in the 3rd quarter. Junior linebacker Taiwo Ogundele forced a fumble in the redzone, that was recovered by senior safety Bretton Darling. Down by 9, Etowah was once again driving down the field to cut the Chief’s lead. However, senior cornerback Cam Walker wasn’t going to allow that, as he intercepted Mahoney’s final throw of the game. Another senior making a big play late in the game, sealing the win for the Chiefs.
They will look to continue their luck and extend their winning streak to 4 as the Chiefs take on the River Ridge Knights in a regional game this upcoming Friday.
