The Chiefs’ baseball take on rivals Creekview Grizzles Thursday, March 22 at home at 5:55. The Chiefs (3-8) will first take on the Grizzles (6-5) the 20th at Creekview. After a rough start to their season under new head coach, Lane Whitley, the Chiefs will be looking to snag two region wins. The Chiefs narrowly lost their first two region games against in-county competitors the River Ridge Knights, 4-3 and . The Knights, who are currently 4-0 in region, will face Creekview just before the Chiefs do on March 15th and 16th.

Sophomore Colin Koprowski stands infield waiting for the ball. Koprowski lettered last year alongside his brother, class of 2017, Tyler.

The Chiefs, who have a full roster, including Clemson commit, Justin Wrobleski and Truett McConell commit, Mason Carrier, are under major reconstruction following the stepping down of last year’s head coach, Travis King, and 11 players either transferring, graduating, or choosing to not return during the offseason. Finishing 13-15 last season, the Chiefs look to improve the Sequoyah baseball name.

The Chiefs’ current three wins come from Cherokee (3-1) and two wins against Riverwood (8-6) and (7-2). Most of the region games are stacked toward the end of the season, with the Chiefs taking on the Creekview Grizzles (3-0), Dalton Catmounts (0-3), Allatoona Bucaneers (3-0), Harrison Hoyas (1-2), and South Cobb Eagles (2-1) from the end of March into April. Winning these games are vital for the Chiefs’ playoff aspirations. The Chiefs, however will not face the other region teams, Osborne (0-2) and Sprayberry (0-3), during the regular season.

Senior Alex Mendoza steps up to bat against River Ridge. Mendoza has been on Varsity all four years.
