Swim team hopes to make a splash at Friday’s meet
Friday, Nov. 12 marks the second swim meet for the Swim Chiefs in the 2021-2022 season at the Cherokee Aquatic Center.
There are eight main individual events: 50 free, 200 free, 100 free, 500 free, 100 back, 100 breast, 100 butterfly, and the 200 Individual Medley. There are also 3 relays, each consisting of 4 people (200 and 400 free and 200 medley). Each race has between 20-100 competitors that come from varying schools.
The team has only had one meet thus far in the season, which was a win for the women as the scoring is split up between men and women. This was the first win for the Chiefs since 2017! Laurel Blase won the girls 200-yard freestyle while Spencer Espelid won it for the boys. Blase also won the girls 200-yard IM and the girls 50-yard freestyle. Logan Geoghagan won the 50-yard freestyle for the boys. Delaney Harrison won the girls 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard freestyle. The girls 200-yard freestyle relay was also a win for girls with the swimmers Blase, Harrison, and Kelsey Jackson. The boys took the win on their 400-yard freestyle relay with swimmers Espelid, Geoghagan, Landon Thomas, and Brett Lowry. The swimmers stated above also achieved state qualifying times.
With only ten meets in the season, eleven if qualified for state, the swim team hopes to improve their individual and overall scores through this upcoming season.
Now, the swim team hopes to add on to what they achieved last meet by getting another win for the women, and hopefully one for the men as well.
